Now we have booked a trip to Cairo and we are travelling... soon! One thing led to another. Cairo will be one of the destinations that we offer through the travel agency, and then we must have been there ourselves and checked things out. No sooner said than done, we each booked a ticket to Cairo!
Table of contents
Previous trips to Egypt
We have visited Egypt three times. The first time we visited Hurghada (including Karnak and Luxor), the second time Sharm el Sheikh (including the Sinai Peninsula) and the third time El Gouna.
We have gone from having a semi-good opinion of Egypt (the first time we were a bit unaccustomed to the sometimes persistent salespeople) to love everything great that this country has to offer.

What we like in Egypt
What we love about Egypt is first and foremost its fascinating history. After all, there are few other places in the world that can match Egypt when it comes to staggering and unrivalled historical sights. We can really get stuck deeply in documentaries about ancient Egypt and then to get there - well, it's a special feeling!
We also like the clear water with the fantastic underwater life, in the form of all the colourful fish. In addition, we like the climate, the reasonably comfortable distance and the reasonable price.

This is on our bucket list
Although we have been to Egypt three times, we feel not done with this country. What remains on our list above all is Cairo and Alexandria - two historic and fascinating cities that we heard so much about. In addition, we dream of doing a slightly longer Nile cruise. We have talked about Cairo, Alexandria and the Nile for the past few years, but haven't got off the ground yet.

Cairo - a destination in our upcoming travel agency FREEDOM Xplore
Now, as we launch our travel agency FREEDOM Xplore, one of our partners in Your Brand Travel (with whom we are setting up the travel agency) is originally from Egypt. Besides being born in Cairo and speaking Arabic (as well as Swedish and a bunch of other languages), he has been organising trips to Egypt for many years.
So it feels quite natural that we should organise trips to Egypt. We love Egypt and our travel agency partner has very good local knowledge. We would love to have Cairo as a destination and our partner has good contacts here. The only catch is that we have not visited Cairo.

Now let's visit Cairo
"You must book your flight tickets to Cairo!" said our partner at Your Brand Travel. Said and done. We have booked tickets Stockholm - Cairo with Turkish Airlines.
Once there, we will be met by our new Egyptian partners who will take us to different sights and show us different hotels (so we can choose the best one!). In addition, we will explore various unique local sites, which may also be interesting to include in our packages.
It will be a fairly short trip, with a total of four days on the ground in Cairo. We will be travelling very soon and of course we will tell you about our experiences!

Have you been to Egypt? How was your experience? Feel free to follow our journey here, and in a bit more real time on Instagram, where we are @freedomtravelnews

Strangely enough, I've never been to Egypt... But I have looked at Cairo and some places by the sea where there are supposed to be dugongs.
I'm sure this will be great in your new business.

Hi Helena! I have never been to Egypt. But my daughter was at a beach resort there and also visited the pyramids. It must be 15-20 years ago. Have heard that they have closed tourism at the pyramids. Really an exciting country! I have been to Tunisia. May remind a little of each other.

Sounds absolutely fantastic with a trip to Egypt and Cairo. Also think it sounds reasonable to go there when you are going to offer trips there.

Will be fun to follow. Cairo was on my bucket list for much of my life. Why was it on my bucket list? Well because I lived there for a couple of years when I was two years old and onwards. My father, who was an air force officer, got an offer to start up regular flights from Cairo to Stockholm after the war by ABA-SILA, the predecessor of SAS. We lived in a villa near the centre of the city, had servants as it was in those days, a maid, a cook called Joseph and a 'boy' for the garden. And a Swedish nanny for me! The cook spoke French, so I heard the language for the first time as a child. I have very clear everyday memories but also terrifying experiences of camel rides in the desert and the dank, damp and dark passages inside the Pyramid of Cheops. Since that time, I have a hard time with narrow streets with crowds and loud Arabic which then sounded scary to me and unfortunately there have always been too many terrorist crimes against tourists over the years to fit with the return visit I saw in front of me so now I settle for excellent documentaries. And when we make mince pies with rice in the family it is still called "Ris á la Joseph" after the chef!

Egypt is a country that we sometimes talked about and certainly Cairo and Luxor in particular attract but also a few days of sun and swimming, although we are not some who prioritise it. It is located at a fairly accessible distance so we will see what the future brings. It will be exciting to see what your travel agency will contain and now have a really good time during your intense days in Cairo.

What fun! And if Cairo is to be included as one of the destinations your travel agency offers, it is clear that you should take a trip here.
Have visited Egypt a few times but not a country I have stuck to, Travelled here as a single woman a couple of times and it was awful. Slightly better when the husband was with me, but if you stay in the hotel area it's ok, but nothing I want to do on holiday.
Fantastic diving and snorkelling on offer. The trip to Cairo and Luxor was absolutely fantastic and so was the cruise we did for 6 days on the Nile. A lot of history is really offered and I like that. . But Cairo itself was also not a city where it was comfortable to stay without male company. Unfortunately. And this to be able to on my own is a prerequisite for me to thrive. I have worked in Tunisia and Morocco, so the culture is not new to me, but there it was not the feeling of being "attacked".
You will be travelling in pairs and will be well looked after, so it should be an exciting trip.
Of course, I follow you via blog and Instagram.
However, I should mention that I was in Egypt for the first time in the late 80s and later a couple of times in the years 2001-2006 and the last time in 2018 so a lot has certainly changed.
Wishing you a great trip.

Great fun! Jossu was in Cairo not long ago and visited all sorts of things, including the pyramids. I know other people who have been to Hurghada both in the 1980s and recently. They were not so happy. Jossu, on the other hand, loved Cairo. And what can you see in only four days in a big city with over 10 million inhabitants? Only "sights", if you will.
