Where Swedes are travelling this Easter

Easter is one of the most popular travel periods of the year, and interest in sun and beach holidays is soaring this year. At travel company TUI, 93 per cent of Easter charter trips are already sold.

Among the most booked hotels during Easter, there is a clear trend: Swedes are investing in quality. TUI's best-selling hotels include several concept hotels. Top 10: Where Swedes are travelling for Easter 2025:

Where foreign tourists prefer to travel in Sweden

Visit Sweden has commissioned a major target group analysis of potential visitors to Sweden. This shows that Sweden is perceived as an affordable and interesting destination. Sweden's nature is attractive and many people cite the economy, climate, world situation and health as important factors for where they travel. Overall, the following destinations are at the top. For Norwegians and for Swedes themselves, however, "Gothenburg, Bohuslän" overtakes Stockholm.

Nordbor named Exhibition of the Year 2024

The Nordic Museum's audience success Northerner is being honoured for its exhibition form and creativity. The museum recently received the "Exhibition of the Year" award at the Swedish Museums' spring meeting in Jönköping. The award is given to the exhibition that has best contributed to developing the exhibition medium in Sweden during the year.

Finnlines invests in the Finland-Germany route with new ships

The Grimaldi Group, which includes Finnlines, has placed an order for a total of nine new ropax vessels, focusing on both cargo and passengers. Of these, three will be operated by Finnlines in the Baltic Sea. The new design is based on Finnlines' Superstar class, Finnsirius and Finncanopusbut is customised for the Finland-Germany route.

Facilities include five bars and restaurants, spas, shops and play areas. All nine ships will be delivered between 2028 and 2030 and will be equipped with cutting-edge green technology.

Entry clearance: fewer trips to the UK

Since the start of the year, bookings to the UK have increased by over 24 per cent, making it the sixth most booked destination for Swedes. However, the recent introduction of the entry permit has led to a clear change in booking behaviour. According to travel agency Tickets' booking statistics, the number of bookings has decreased by almost 22% compared to the week before the requirement came into force.

Falkenberg Food Days: Roadtrip becomes a long Friday!

Falkenberg's Food Days - Roadtrip is now an equally obvious Easter tradition for food enthusiasts and visitors to Falkenberg as the herring is on the Easter table. This year, the concept is being tweaked and instead of two shorter days, the focus is on Good Friday.

A single, packed Friday where food crafts, cultivation and culinary love are at the centre! During Falkenberg's Food Days: Roadtrip 2025 on 18 April, from 11 am to 5 pm, almost 30 participants will take part this year.

The fast train goes directly to the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz

Snälltåget extends the Stockholm - Berlin night train to the European Capital of Culture 2025 - Chemnitz - in Saxony in south-eastern Germany. There will be a total of three departures in 2025, with the first departure on the weekend of 8-11 May, in conjunction with Europe Week in Chemnitz. The arrival will take place on Europe Day, 9 May. The train will also run to Chemnitz in early August and to "Tag der Schiene" on 20 September.

Göta Canal launches "Boat trip, bug and boogie"

Göta Canal is launching a new package experience where cruising meets music festival. On 29 May, "Boat trip, bug and boogie with M/S Athene", a day trip from Söderköping to the ruins of Stegeborg Castle for the opening night of the Rock the Ruin music festival. During the journey, a beautiful journey through three locks, music and bar service await. Upon arrival, there will be a concert with Larz Kristerz and The Refreshments.

New music festival aims to create a buzz in Halmstad

Halmstad will be home to a big, bubbly new music festival this summer when Hearts Festival takes place in the heart of the city from 30 June - 3 July. It's a four-day celebration of music and people for all ages. You can check out the artists at heartsfestival.se. There will be 5000 tickets released per day starting on Monday 14 April.

Reflection of the week

One could almost imagine that the requirement for an entry permit to the UK would affect travelling. It's supposed to be fairly easy to apply for, but it's still an extra detail - and competition between destinations is high.
