We have just visited two beautiful spa hotels in Poland - in the lovely Świeradów-Zdrój in the south-west of the country. Set in a classic Polish spa town, these beautiful hotels offer spas and various treatments. What's more, there are plenty of exciting experiences in the area, such as a dizzyingly high 'Sky Walk', gondola lifts, beautiful towns and unique nature.

Świeradów-Zdrój in south-west Poland
Świeradów-Zdrój, or Bad Flinsberg as the town is known in German, is a small and ancient spa town in the Polish mountains, with around 4,000 residents. Even more come here on their days off to relax with spas, treatments and nature experiences.
Here, as in the Czech Republic, the classic spa tradition is still alive. For example, you can still stroll through the town's beautiful promenade and 'drink the well', that is, savour the healthy well water.

According to legend, the Świeradów-Zdrój spa series started when a doctor found a dead frog that wouldn't decompose - that's when he realised that the water in the town had healing properties!

Świeradów-Zdrój is located in south-west Poland, approximately equidistant from Wrocław (Poland), Dresden (Germany) and Prague (Czech Republic). In other words, it can be an excellent place to pass through when travelling through Europe.
Two great spa hotels in Poland
So we have visited two nice spa hotels in Poland, both located in Świeradów-Zdrój: Hotel Buczyński and Park Hotel. Both hotels are owned by a Swedish-Polish family that we got in touch with because one of the owners, Anna, is also a travel blogger and runs the fine Swedish travel blog Anna at the gate.
1) Spa hotel in Poland: Hotel Buczyński
The first spa hotel we checked into was Hotel Buczyński, which is the newer of the two hotels. On the outside, the hotel has a classic and somewhat fairy-tale style, but inside you can tell that this is a modern hotel.

The rooms
The rooms are classic and comfortable, with all the services you need. We stayed with a nice view from the balcony, and we were each greeted by a small bottle of bubbly.

Food and drink
Breakfast was simply fantastic. The breakfast buffet is large and there are plenty of delicacies to choose from. The scrambled eggs are made with real eggs, the pastries are tempting and the selection varies a little from day to day.

lunch generally not included in the hotel stay, but you can of course order lunch in the restaurant if you want. We did this twice and both times we chose "today's" without having a clue what we would get. So delicious! First soup (and the Poles know how to make soup!), then some home-style dish, such as slow-cooked meat, and finally a delicious cake. Yum!

Dinner is served in the form of a buffet. None of us are really fond of buffets, but this one was good. Good, well-prepared main courses, some cheeses and plenty of good desserts.

"Taste of Poland" is an idea developed uniquely for Scandinavian guests booking 5-day package (ad link) via our travel agency FREEDOM Xplore. The menu is not completely set yet, but it will be a 4-course menu with typical Polish dishes that may be interesting to try. Perhaps there will also be a small glass of Polish flavoured liquor, which is popular in Poland, but not available in Sweden.

Beer tasting is another concept that is unique to guests who book our Freedom beer package (ad link). We sampled three beers from a local brewery, along with written information about the beer, in Swedish. As a snack, we were served plenty of Polish goodies, including ham, sausages and pickles. Very good and nice!

A cosy bar is also in the Buczyński Hotel, and here we enjoyed a glass or two of white.

Spas and treatments
Spas and treatments are the thing at this spa hotel in Poland. We like hot tubs and enjoyed the warm bubbly pools, both indoor and outdoor.

The hotel has doctors, nurses and physiotherapists, so those who wish can receive more medically orientated treatment. Depending on the health problems you have, you may be prescribed things like peat baths, TENS, laser therapy, cryotherapy and medical massage. In addition, there is of course more "regular" wellness in the form of, for example, classical massage, ayurveda and various relaxing spa baths.

Peter chose beer baths, and then there was beer both internally and externally. He looked happy!

2) Spa hotels in Poland: Park Hotel
After two days we moved to Park Hotel, which is a five-minute walk from the sister hotel. This hotel is considerably older, and although both hotels have the same style on the outside, it looks different on the inside.
Winding corridors and mixed styles tell of the years gone by. One thing both hotels have in common, however, is the abundance of art on the walls, including work by many prominent Polish artists.

The rooms
The rooms in this hotel are also classic and comfortable (but possibly with fewer electrical outlets, as the standard for such was different when these rooms were built). We had a great view from our balcony, over the church and the mountains.

Food and drink
Breakfast at this hotel is slightly smaller than its larger sister hotel, but also very delicious with a large selection of savoury spreads, fresh fruit and tempting sweets.

Dinners is organised in the classic "Austrian way". This means that every morning you can tick the main course you want to eat in the evening. Dishes are served at a seated table and the full menu includes starter, soup, main course and a generous dessert buffet.

Spas and treatments
This hotel also focuses on spa and treatments, and although the hotel is older, there is a brand new and really delicious pool area. Here we enjoyed a morning bath in the nice whirlpool, while having a lovely view through the large windows.
Here, too, there are medical staff and lots of different treatments for everything from back pain to high blood pressure. We each chose a classic full body massage which felt like the perfect way to prepare for the upcoming long motorhome journeys!

Experiences in Świeradów-Zdrój
If you want to hang out at spa hotels in Poland all day, there are also other things to see and do in Świeradów-Zdrój.
The House of Health
One place you won't want to miss checking out in Świeradów-Zdrój is the "House of Health" or Dom Zdrojowy as the building is called in Polish. When you enter this mighty building, you are greeted by a stunningly beautiful wooden 'promenade'.
If you think back to the turn of the century, you can imagine how the well-to-do spa tourists strolled here, dressed in beautiful dresses and fancy hats, drinking sparkling mineral water and chatting about this and that.

Ski & Sun gondola lift
The Ski & Sun lift is a must-see experience in Świeradów-Zdrój. The lift takes you up to the top where you can ski in winter and hike or cycle in summer. When we were here, the lift was closed for a few days for planned maintenance, so we'll have to come back... or you can try it and tell us!
Sky Walk
That such a small town as Świeradów-Zdrój has such a powerful "Sky Walk" (perhaps Poland's largest?) is really impressive. You walk all the way up to the top (or halfway if you're afraid of heights like me) and all along the way you have fantastic views. If you want a extra adrenaline rush, you can go down the slide all the way down ... !

Cycling tours
If you want both nature and action, you can rent a mountain bike, in a rental right next to Hotel Buczyński. For example, you can cycle "single track" or you can go to Chatka Górzystów, where it is popular to eat waffles.

Excursions around Świeradów-Zdrój
There are also many excursions to do in the area around Świeradów-Zdrój. Here are our top tips!
Szklarska Poręba
Szklarska Poręba is a small town located 20 minutes by car from Świeradów-Zdrój. Despite being a small town, it is a very popular place for tourists, offering both winter sports and spas. You can also count on restaurants, brewery, shops, souvenirs and all kinds of entertaining activities for children and adults!

Julia glassworks
Not far from Szklarska Poręba you will find the glassworks Julia, where Bohemian crystal is produced as in the Czech Republic. The glassworks is a popular destination with a museum, guided tours and a large shop with fine glassware.

Jelenia Góra
Jelenia Góra is a slightly larger city that you will find 40 minutes away from the hotels. What a beautiful city! We can recommend going here just to stroll in the city centre and maybe sit down in a café or a restaurant.

Castle Valley at Jelenia Góra
In the Jelenia Góra Valley, castles are few and far between. Some are just a stone's throw away from each other and at several you can stop for lunch and stroll in the castle gardens. Read more about the Castle Valley at Jelenia Góra here.

Frýdlant Castle in the Czech Republic
Frýdlant Castle (or Friedland Castle) is a Czech castle that is a major attraction. We didn't have time to stop when we passed by, but there is everything from a museum to various guided tours. The castle is half an hour from Świeradów-Zdrój by car.

Sněžka Mountain
Located on the border between the Czech Republic and Poland, Mount Sněžka is the highest mountain in the Sudeten Mountains. On the Czech side, in the town of Pec pod Sněžkou, there is a gondola lift that takes you to the top. This town is one and a half hours from Świeradów-Zdrój by car. Read more about Sněžka here.

Rock formations in the Czech Republic
If you cross the border into the Czech Republic, you can also experience several different areas with absolutely fantastic rock formations. We can recommend visits to Hrubá Skála (1 h 15 min by car), Besedické skály (1 h 15 min by car), Prachovské skály (1 hour 30 minutes by car) and Adršpach Rocks (1 h 45 min by car).

Have you visited a spa hotel in Poland?
All in all, we had a great stay and now we are ready for new adventures! Have you ever visited a spa hotel in Poland? Or maybe somewhere else in Sweden or Europe? How was your experience?

What a lovely part of Poland and what beautiful spas. Although we like to book an overnight stay with a spa here at home in Sweden, we have never stayed at a spa hotel abroad. Last autumn we had planned to go south in Poland but when we were in the north of the country, the big floods happened in the south at the same time as covid attacked me with full force. Now we have more reasons to go south, what nice cities, a cool skywalk and maybe a spa visit!
