Food, wine and prices in Portugal

When you're abroad, it's always fun to browse the supermarkets! When the prices are good, like here in Portugal, it's even more fun. Perhaps the cheapest is at chains like Lidl, but it has been nicer to shop at the store Continente.

Green wine and Portuguese fish

Green wine, what is it? Through our new-found friends Åsa and Sverker in Portugal, with the blog Bortugal, we have become aware of "Vinho verde". Vinho verde means green wine and is a young light wine from Portugal. A new favourite for sure!

Delicious oysters in Cancale, Brittany, France

There is something special about experiencing oysters in France. In Brittany, France, Cancale has sometimes been called the mecca of oysters. Here the oyster beds are lined up, and everywhere in the small town there are small shops selling oysters and other seafood.

The food in France's supermarkets

We have not eaten in a restaurant once since we arrived in France. Mostly we shop at the Carrefour grocery store and eat in the motorhome. The general feeling is that the food is expensive, but the quality is high.

White wine tasting and 5-course menu

Yesterday we had a white wine tasting and dinner with Peter's sons Robin and Billie, and Robin's wife Alexandra, here in the houseboat. We tried six different white wines, some that I received at my dissertation and some that we bought ourselves. The dinner had a seafood theme, of course, to suit.

Moule marinière - wine-cooked mussels

You can probably say that we are really hungry for France now! Today we had Moule marinière, mussels in white wine, for lunch in the houseboat. Mussels are a luxury that is actually relatively cheap. A net cost 60 SEK, and together with bread and cheese it makes a good lunch for two.

Oyster Bar in Stockholm - an evening with a seafood platter

Saturday night we spent at Oyster Bar, in Östermalm in Stockholm. Wow, how good and nice! We had an appetiser and starter, and then a fantastic seafood platter. There was also dessert!

Systembolaget now has a boxed wine in the shape of ... a caravan! Markus Eriksson of Rewine does not hide the fact that they want to sell the wine to campers, but hopes that customers will also think the wine tastes good.

Yesterday we were invited to a fantastic wine tasting and Halloween dinner at the home of Peter's son and his wife: Robin and Alexandra, together with youngest son Billie. We think wine tasting is a fun way to socialise while learning about wine and trying new dishes.
