Real Mexican food

Real Mexican food! Last night my colleagues met for a Mexican cookery evening. One of the colleagues is of Mexican origin and had brought "real" Mexican recipes, not Santa Maria's texmex packages, but things that "ordinary Mexicans" usually eat. Interesting of course, and so it became really really good!

Mussels with tomato and parsley

We love good food, especially fish and seafood. For a week we've been camping with kids who only want meat and chips, and maybe the occasional barbecue sausage. Already yesterday we had crazy cravings for seafood. But how easy is it to find fresh fish and shellfish on a Monday?

Last night we visited the popular restaurant Lammet och Grisen here in Löttorp on Öland. Thank you (several) blog readers who told us about it! At Lammet, as the restaurant seems to be called, they serve "Öländsk fest". And yes, it was definitely a party we attended yesterday.

Luxurious barbecue dinner with grilled new potatoes

Yesterday we had a really good and luxurious barbecue dinner at the motorhome. We grilled lamb tenderloin which turned out super nice, and we also put boiled potatoes from the day before on the grill. Wow, how good it is!

Pasta salad with smoked salmon - perfect for picnics

This is our current favourite: creamy pasta salad with cold smoked salmon. The salad is perfect for lunch or dinner on hot summer days, and is equally good in the campervan or on a picnic. Great with a cold beer or some sparkling wine!

Where can you find the best beer in the world? Could it be in Belgium? When you're in Belgium, you should definitely try Belgian beer. There are lots of different types of beer here, including top-fermented beer, Trappist beer and fruit beer. One beer you'll see in many places is 'Leffe', but there are also many other, perhaps more exciting, varieties to try.

Almond mussels - large round mussels

I thought almond mussels were cookies, but apparently not only. When we were at the Coop yesterday, we found a type of mussel that we had never seen before and it was called almond mussels. Curious as we are, we bought a net.

Grilled golden asparagus - a really tasty fish

We have always called this fish seabream, but now we have seen that it can also be called guldsparid in Swedish. Many people may recognise it from the Mediterranean countries, where it is usually called dorada, dourada or similar depending on the country.

Salad with blue cheese and walnuts

For starters today we made a small salad with blue cheese and walnuts. We got the inspiration for the salad when we looked at the deli counter at Coop. It turned out really good!
