At the end of September each year, the lobster fishing starts. Grebbestad is also the centre for Sweden's production of wild oysters and every year, on the first Saturday in September, "Oyster Day" is arranged. Write down Bröderna Klemming and Evert's boathouse, which does most of the work.
81. Step into the M/S Donalda for a boat trip in the Grebbestad archipelago.
In the summer you can join a guided archipelago tour/seal safari or a trip to the Weather Islands, and in the winter there is a restaurant on the lower level. In 1987 she was bought by Thorsten Klevsäter, to be used as a tour boat. A few years later Thorsten met his wife Lisbeth, and since then the couple have worked together on board. This is a very nice thing to do in Bohuslän.
82. Take the opportunity to swim on the west coast
Swimming is a popular thing to do in Bohuslän and the west coast in the summer. Here are some swimming spots around Grebbestad:
- Bathing place Edsvik, 4 kilometres northwest of Grebbestad, on the way to Havstenssund.
- Bathing place Grebbestad, at the southern entrance to the town.
- Bathing place Grönemad, just north-west of Grebbestad.
- Swimming area Tanumstrand, 2 kilometres south of Grebbestad.
83. Walking on rocks around the Monastery and the Altar Stone
Munkkyrkan is a tunnel-like cave, located by the sea just north of Grönemad, and here you will also find a large boulder called the altar stone. The cave is about 11-12 metres deep and has been formed during the ice age is incredibly fascinating, as are the other rock formations that we jump around on. Very dramatic nature.
84. Discover the Tjurpannan nature reserve
we start with the small natural harbour in the Tjurpannan Nature Reserve. This place is completely unbelievable idyllic. The rocks and clouds are beautifully reflected in the water, the small boats bob peacefully and the lobster pots are lined up on the piers. It's very hard to resist taking lots of photos. There are several trails and all are worth walking.
85. How to get to Greby cemetery
Greby grave field is the largest grave field in Bohuslän, and is a fascinating place with many ancient burial mounds. There are more than 180 visible graves here, but the actual number is believed to be much higher. Legend has it that fallen Scottish warriors are buried in the mounds. The graves date from 400-500 AD.
87. Walk through Strömstad
Walking in Strömstad is a very good idea. Here you will find most of the idyllic photo views and you will walk through the history of Strömstad. Strömstad, located on the west coast of Sweden, is a popular holiday destination with its charming coastal town feel and beautiful archipelago. The town is known for its fresh food shops, boating and proximity to the Kosterhavet National Park.
90. Check out street art in Strömstad
An art tour you can take on your own is a tour to discover the city's street art. In the summer of 2022, eleven walls were painted during the 'Artscape Lighthouse' project, on the theme of 'human interaction with the sea'. We took our bikes around and had a great day with lunch, ice cream and beautiful street art. We have the whole list just for you!
91. History you in Strömstad Museum
Strömstad Museum is located in an old mill warehouse from the 1880s, right next to the Strömsån river. The museum is completely free to visit and you will have the opportunity to learn more about war times, what it is like to live in a border area between Sweden and Norway and much more. It is very interesting history that you should not miss doing in Bohuslän.
93. Take a trip to the Svinesund bridges
There is real history here and the border runs right through the bridge between Norway and Sweden. The Svinesund Bridges consist of the Old Svinesund Bridge and the Svinesund Bridge. Both bridges cross the Svinesund strait, connecting Sweden with Norway. The old bridge was built in 1939-1942, is 420 metres long and has a sail-free height of 58 metres. Beautiful and full of history.
94. Fascinated by the Fornblom archaeological site
Blomsholm is home to Bohuslän's largest ring of judges and one of Sweden's largest shipyards. There are also seven grave fields from the Iron Age and the large mound Grönehög. A fantastic walking trail runs around the area and you will find several signs with information, just as it should be. It is fascinating to try to imagine the people who once created this!
95. Take a trip to Nordkoster
Norkoster is very wild and unspoilt and beautiful. The boat ride here takes 35 minutes from Strömstad. You will find fine sandy beaches, a large campsite for those with tents and at the harbour a couple of charming restaurants such as the restaurant Strandkanten which is tucked in among the boathouses. We landed the orange loop which is 3.5 km, where we came past both the pilot view and the lighthouses. Very nice trail. There is a cable ferry in the summer between the islands.
96. Sleep over on the south coast
Sydkoster is the larger of the two islands, and there are several options for overnight stays such as Hotel Kostergården or Pensionat Bergdalen. There are also several restaurants on the island, a beautiful church, idyllic harbours and an underwater snorkelling trail in Rörvik beach. We recommend bringing a vehicle such as a bicycle or scooter as there are longer distances and here you will see electric bikes, scooters, flatbed mopeds, golf carts, quad bikes and small electric buses.
97. Learn more about Costal Sea National Park
Kosterhavet National Park is a natural wonder and a proud representative of Sweden's marine treasures. Spanning 400 square kilometres, most of which is sea, the park opens up a world of unique marine environments and species found nowhere else in Sweden. It is a place where you can admire the delicate balance between land and sea, and where nature's own diversity shines in all its splendour.
