Why camp in Corsica?

In Corsica, many campsites are surrounded by beaches and greenery. There are also some pitches, but mainly simple and affordable natural campsites. With a campervan, you can experience a fantastic island, with dizzying mountain roads, sun and swimming, prehistoric remains and French cuisine.

  • DescriptionUnorganised but pleasant campsite with beach just outside and walking distance to the centre of St Florent.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant serving breakfast, mini-shop and WiFi at extra cost.
  • Price: €15/day without electricity in low season (€3/day for electricity) in 2015.
  • Find hereDrive over the bridge, heading from St Florent towards Calvi. Turn immediately to the right.
  • See and do in the neighbourhood: Citadel, Old Town and beaches. You can also take boat trips to the magically beautiful beach. Saleccia Beach.

Camping Pinede

Calvi - Camping La Pinede

  • Description: Large and well-organised campsite close to the beach, within walking distance to Calvi centre.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant, shop, heated pool and WiFi at extra cost.
  • Price: 16 euros/day with ACSI discount in low season 2015.
  • Find here: If you are coming from the north, drive 200 metres after the sign "Calvi" and turn right.
  • See and do in the neighbourhood: The Citadel, the beaches, the Shaker train and more.

Porto - Camping Sole e Vista

  • DescriptionLarge campsite located on a steep slope, with a swimming pool with magnificent views at the top.
  • Service: Service house, emptying (with impractical location at the top), restaurant, nice pool and WiFi only at reception (impractical location at the bottom).
  • Price: 22 euros/day without electricity in the mid-season (June) 2015.
  • Find here: Enter Porto from the north and turn left at the campsite sign.
  • See and do in the neighbourhood: Around Porto, you can experience dramatic mountain routes between Calvi and Porto, and around Calanche.

Aleria - Riva Bella

  • DescriptionLarge naturist campsite on a sandy beach on the east coast. Here you can stand right at the edge of the beach. There are also llamas on the campsite.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant, SPA and WiFi at extra cost.
  • Price: 18 euros/day with ACSI discount in low season 2015.
  • Find here: Drive towards Aleria, it is signposted to the campsite.

  • DescriptionSimple camping in a large meadow right next to a beautiful sandy beach, with no crowds.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant (closed when we were there), small shop and WiFi (which works poorly).
  • Price: 24 euros/day without electricity in the mid-season (June) 2015.
  • Find here: Located in the bay between Capu Neru and Punta di Porto Pollo. A small road leads down from the D155, signposted to Plage de Cupabia and the campsite.

  • DescriptionLarge campsite in a hilly natural area just outside Propriano.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant, swimming pool and WiFi (at extra cost).
  • Price: 24 euros/day in the low season (June) 2015.

  • See and do in the neighbourhood: From here it is not too far if you want to visit the prehistoric site. Filitosa.

  • DescriptionNice campsite within walking distance of the marina and the fantastic beaches at Sperone.
  • Service: Service house, electricity and good place to empty/fill tanks. WiFi should be available for purchase, but did not work at all when we were there.
  • Price: 21 euros/day incl. electricity in mid-season (June) 2015.

Driving to Corsica

  • Ferries: There are many different departures and destinations, including with Corsica Ferries. We travelled the ferry by camper van between Nice and Ilé Rousse which took just over 5 hours.

Roads and driving in Corsica

  • Roads: In some places, such as the west coast, the roads can be steeply inclined towards the sea. Driving here is very beautiful, but there are also alternative routes.
  • Per mille limit: 0.5 (0.2 for professional drivers and new licence holders)
  • Traffic rules: Talking on a handheld phone and sending text messages while driving is prohibited.
  • Equipment in the car: Reflective vests should be kept in the car.
  • Words in traffic: "Rappel" means reminder. "Sens interdit" means prohibited direction of travel.
  • Fuel: Diesel is called "gazole" or "gasoil", while petrol is called "essence" and is available in 95 and 98 octane.
  • Parking rules:  Yellow lines on the road mean no stopping and dashed yellow lines mean no parking. "Stationnement" means parking and "payant" means that it is subject to a charge. 
  • Security: Make sure you have Roadside Assistance, so that you can get help on the spot in case of an accident. The emergency number for the country's emergency services is 112.

  • The rules for free camping are restrictive.
