Why travel to Austria?
Austria is magically beautiful, with green forests and clear lakes and high Alpine peaks licking the sky. There are plenty of opportunities for short or long hikes, not least by hitchhiking up the Alps in summer. There are several famous ski resorts, such as St Anton, Bad Gastein and Sölden, as well as Alpbachtal, which we liked very much.
In Austria you will find well-prepared home cooking like goulash soup, but also fine dining and locally produced delicacies. Austria offers several beautiful cities, such as Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart. Below you will find lots of articles about Austria.

Food and drink in Austria
- Restaurants: Austria has two 3-star Michelin restaurants and twelve 2-star restaurants for those who want to go the extra mile. There is also plenty of good food for a reasonable price.
- Dishes: Bretljausen's is a signature dish, much like the Italian antipasti. Toast is a pyttipanna deluxe but simple and delicious. Goulash soup is available everywhere. Always a hit!
- National dish: Wienerschnitzel from veal thighs. Some may say dumplings and in the Voralberg they call Kasnockn the national dish, a kind of home-made noodles.
- Desserts: For dessert, we take apfelstrudel with apple filling or Kaiserschmarrn and it sounds really weird. Sacher cake goes down well too!
- Drinks: There are plenty of fruit spirits to be had. Lovely amber coloured lagers and good quality white wines.
