Here we present campsites and pitches in Sardinia - from lovely campsites near the sea to pitches right on the beach. We also offer personal tips on things to see and do nearby, while you're on the road. Campsites and pitches in Sardinia are presented from north to south.

Why camp in Sardinia?

Camping in Sardinia often means being surrounded by beautiful nature, preferably close to the sea. There are both nice and simple campsites, as well as some pitches. Sardinia offers everything from sun and swimming to boat trips, caves and charming towns.

Camping La Maddalena

La Maddalena Camping La MAddalena

  • DescriptionNice campsite with a relaxed atmosphere, which doesn't actually open until 25 June, but it was possible to stay there a week before as the restaurant is open.
  • Service: Service centre, restaurant and bar.
  • Price: 25 euros/day including electricity in June 2015.
  • Find here: Take the ferry from Palau to La Maddalena and follow the signs for the campsite.

The Emerald Coast Camping Centro Vacanze Isuledda

  • Description: Large campsite with a great location on several beautiful beaches (a short distance from the main campsite). Emerald Coast), with loud children's activities and musical entertainment heard throughout the campsite.
  • Service: Service house, shop, restaurant, entertainment, children's activities, gym, beauty centre.
  • Price: 18 euros/day incl. electricity with ACSI discount in low season 2015.

Stintino - parking space at le Saline beach

  • DescriptionCar park with large areas at the beach. On the farthest part were several motorhomes, when we were there. There is no service here, but otherwise the place works like many car parks in Sardinia.
  • Service: Rubbish bins. At the beach there is a small beach restaurant.

Porto Torres - Camping Golfo dell'Asinara

  • DescriptionEnormously large campsite on a long sandy beach. Many groups of children and young people were there when we were there.
  • Service: Service house, laundry, supermarket and WiFi included in the price.
  • Price: 29 euros incl. electricity in mid-season (June) 2015.
  • Find here: Drive to Porto Torres and then follow the beach eastwards, Loc. Platamona, 35.

Italien, Sardinien, Alghero

Alghero parking space in the harbour

  • DescriptionParking spaces along the length of the harbour. Several motorhomes stayed here when we were there. Central location for visits to the Old Town and for boat trips.
  • Service: Dustbins.
  • Price: Free (2015)
  • Find here: Drive to Alghero and down to the harbour.
  • Things to see and do in the neighbourhood: The old town of Alghero, boat trips, and Caves of Neptune.

Bosa - Area Camper Attrezzata S'Abba Druche

  • Description: Simple and natural motorhome campsite right on the beach, with the mountains behind as a backdrop. About 10 minutes from Bosa by car. Here we celebrated a birthdayand here we were invited to local residents.
  • Service: Good place to empty/fill tanks, electricity, very simple service house with two toilets and showers (at extra cost), washing machine, restaurant right next door and WiFi from the restaurant (2 euros).
  • Price: 20/euro per day including electricity in July 2015.
  • Find here: Located just north of Bosa. Look out for signs and flags.

Cala Gonone - Camping Car Palmasera

  • DescriptionNice pitch within walking distance to the beaches and the centre of Cala Gonone. 
  • Service: Service house, good place to empty/refill and WiFi included in the price (on part of the site). 
  • Price: 20 euros/day including electricity and WiFi in the low season (June) 2015.

  • Things to see and do in the neighbourhood: Sunbathing, swimming and boat trips.

Oristano - parking space in Arborea

  • DescriptionOne of the best pitches in Sardinia! Small but nice site with shady pitches, close to a long beach. You pay in a bar nearby.
  • Service: Possibility to empty/fill tanks. Electricity can be bought and you have to pay per KwH.
  • Price: €5/day (June 2015).
  • Find here: Drive towards Arborea (just south of Oristano) and then towards Arborea Marina. Area Comunale Sotto Cielo, Lungomare, 09092 Arborea Lido.
  • Things to see and do in the neighbourhood: Sun and sea and the town of Oristano.

Costa del Rei - Camping le Dune

  • DescriptionNice campsite with shady pitches, right next to a nice beach.
  • Service: Service centre, shop, pizzeria and free WiFi in the bar.
  • Price: €30/day in July 2015.

  • DescriptionOne of several good sites in Sardinia! Well-guarded pitch on tarmac, within walking distance of the town.
  • Service: Possibility to empty/fill tanks, toilets, showers, electricity, small reception, bike hire and WiFi (at extra cost).
  • Price: 20 euros including electricity in July 2015.

  • Price: 20 euros/day including electricity in June 2015.

Roads and driving in Sardinia

  • Roads: The roads in Sardinia are mainly good, but there can be queues in the major cities.
  • Environmental zones:  The sign 'Zona Traffico Limitato' (red ring on a white background) sometimes seen in cities indicates that only authorised cars are allowed to drive here. Be careful, because if you drive here you risk being fined.
  • Per mille limit: 0,5
  • Traffic rules: Talking on a handheld phone and sending text messages while driving is prohibited. If you have two or more pets, they must be restrained, in a cage or behind a net. If you only have one animal, you don't need to worry about this.
  • Words in traffic: "Parcheggio" means parking while "rallentare" means slowing down.
  • Fuel: Diesel is called gasolio. Please note that petrol stations may be closed on Sundays.
  • Parking rules: Parking spaces with blue lines are subject to a charge and parking spaces with white lines are free of charge (although a parking disc may be required). Parking spaces with yellow lines are reserved. 
  • Security: Make sure you have Roadside Assistance, so that you can get help on the spot in case of an accident. The emergency number for the country's emergency services is 112.

Rules for camping and pitching in Sardinia

  • Camping: There are plenty of campsites and occasional pitches around the island. 
  • Free camping: Free camping is allowed on private land if the landowner has given permission. It is generally not permitted to free camp on public land, but overnight stays in a motorhome parked on a road, street or car park are permitted if necessary.
