Beer tasting at the 'School' in Turku

When we were in Turku we visited Koulu, or "Skolan" as it is called in Swedish. It doesn't sound like much fun, but the old girls' school now houses a brewery and a restaurant, and here we got to take part in a beer tasting!

Valpolicella - the wine valleys of northern Italy

Yesterday we took a tour of the vineyards in Valpolicella, the wine district just north of Verona and just east of Lake Garda. The famous Amarone and Valpolicella wines are made here, but also Ripasso and sweet red Recioto wines. We were lucky enough to be invited to an Italian dinner and to get a personal guided tour of the vineyards.

Green wine, what is it? Through our new-found friends Åsa and Sverker in Portugal, with the blog Bortugal, we have become aware of "Vinho verde". Vinho verde means green wine and is a young light wine from Portugal. A new favourite for sure!

Yesterday we had a white wine tasting and dinner with Peter's sons Robin and Billie, and Robin's wife Alexandra, here in the houseboat. We tried six different white wines, some that I received at my dissertation and some that we bought ourselves. The dinner had a seafood theme, of course, to suit.
