The new colour of the houseboat

Now I have painted the first piece with the new colour! The houseboat will be light grey (a shade called sea mist) and all the linings will be white. While I was painting the lining and walls, Peter demolished the old deck and continued to sand and paint the deck.

Today the weather has been fantastic. Perfect to take the opportunity to work on the outside of the boat! I have painted the linings of the small windows on the lower deck, on one side of the boat.

Building permits - it's finally done

Finally, we have the building permit in our hands! We submitted the application last summer, and it said that the waiting time for a decision was about 10 weeks. It took 40 weeks ...

New bathroom window

Now it was all over for us! Today we have changed our bathroom window. A small old window has become a large modern one. Now we have a fantastic view from the bathroom and out over the water.

Window replacement on the sea side

Today we have changed the three small windows facing the lake, on the lower deck. It was a bit more tricky, as it is quite narrow ... But we were lucky too. Firstly, we had shelter, as the wind was blowing from the other side. And the windows were the right size this time, so we didn't have to saw.

New kitchen window

Today we have been busy replacing our kitchen window with a new one. All the windows in the houseboat will be replaced. We want triple-glazed windows everywhere and in several places there will be much larger windows than today. We have also bought windows where the wood is protected by aluminium, so that they are more resistant to the weather.

Getting water into the boat

The other night we woke up to find the bilge pump running. When water enters the hull, it starts automatically and pumps the water out through a pipe. However, the last splash of water flows back through the pipe because the slope is quite strong, and so the pump starts again ...

New windows on the way

Now it's time for new windows! We are going to change all the windows in the houseboat. The old windows are single or double glazed. In addition, the frames are worn and ugly. On the lower deck there are not even real windows. Someone has just bought sheets of glass and put them in frames. In addition to being ugly, this means that not a single window on the lower deck can be opened ... So it's time for a window replacement operation!

It rains into the houseboat

When it rains heavily (like today) it rains into the houseboat. It runs along one wall of the boiler room and continues down into the hull. There is a submersible pump that pumps the water out. But it is of course not good that it gets wet inside the boat ...
