Eagle's Nest - Hitler's 50th birthday present among the mountains

We have visited the Eagle's Nest, or Kehlsteinhaus as the house is actually called in German. This extremely high house was a gift for Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday in 1939. The Eagle's Nest is located in southern Germany (Bavaria) in Berchtesgaden, near Salzburg and the Austrian border.

Lago d'Iseo - Italy's most beautiful lake?

Sure, Lake Garda is beautiful, but Lago d'Iseo is almost even more beautiful! We drove there in the evening to find a campsite (which there are plenty around the lake), but they were all full! A German laughed and explained that he booked already in February ... We had no choice but to hitchhike. The first night was in a car park, and the second night was incredibly beautiful right on the lake.

If you ever visit Slovenia, be sure to visit the cave in Postojna! It's a major tourist magnet, but definitely worth the visit. The cave is absolutely huge and filled with amazing formations of stalagtites, stalagmites and pillars.

Hjälmaregården - campsite by Lake Hjälmare

Hjälmaregården is idyllically beautiful in Läppe, on the southern shore of Lake Hjälmaren (not far from Vingåker). There is a farm with a conference centre, cottages for rent, camping and a nice bathing area. Soon there will also be a nice service centre.

Stockholm is pretty amazing. Even if you are in the centre of the city, nature is often around the corner. Today we have had a planning day with work at Carlshälls gård, on Långholmen. The farm is in the centre of the city, just a short walk from the Hornstull metro.

Skokloster camping - great waterfront on the Skohalvön peninsula

Skokloster camping (or Sånka camping as it seems to be called on the signs here) is located on Skohalvön in Håbo municipality, not far from Skokloster Castle. The campsite is beautifully situated by the water and has a large area for campers, although at first you hardly notice all the caravans between the trees.

Visiting Berbers in Morocco's Atlas Mountains

Today we visited Berbers in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. We booked a minibus trip from Marrakech with a guide in French, a stop with a Berber family, climbing up to a waterfall and (of course) ten thousand vendors who wanted to sell necklaces, pots, knives, fine stones, herbs, spices ... you name it.

Horse riding in Idre - nature and a little drama

Yesterday it was time for horse riding in Idre. I have ridden a lot when I was younger, and think that riding is a fantastic way to experience nature. Peter and Billie have ridden a bit and Pontus once, but all three were positive about today's adventure! We got nice horses and got to follow the guide Mia on a wonderful trip in the forest and on the mountain.

Beaver safari without beavers in Lake Grövelsjön

Last night it was time for a beaver safari in a canoe. A guide took us and a group of Dutch people to Grövelsjön. It was a bit warmer coming down from the mountain and beautiful and calm on the lake, so we had a really nice canoe trip. This is a great thing to do for a whole family, when everyone can get involved together and have some excitement about seeing some cool beavers.

Beautiful nature on Gålö in Haninge municipality

If you want to get out into nature, without travelling so far from Stockholm, we can really recommend Gålö. Gålö Havsbad is located about 3.5 kilometres south of Stockholm, in Haninge municipality. There is a nice campsite and the opportunity to walk in the forest, fish, swim and ski, depending on the season of course. According to the information brochure, you can also hire a bicycle, boat or horse.
