The misery continues in the boiler room

You wouldn't have thought that you could suffer more misery now, but lo and behold you did. This morning I woke up and went to the toilet and then I heard Peter shouting in panic from the bedroom on the lower deck: "Switch off the water!". Then our nice new sewage pump had broken ... again!

It's unbelievable - without water and sewage again!

We worked a marathon yesterday evening and night to get all the old stuff out of the boiler room before the plumber and electrician would come, which meant that we were without water and sewage yesterday. This morning the electrician and plumber came to our houseboat.

I forgot to tell you ... about the sewerage incident

We were having a leisurely dinner on Friday, drinking a glass of wine, when suddenly we noticed a smell... very bad. That's when we realised that the sewage tank was not properly sealed, so to speak. It has to be emptied at regular intervals (by pulling a lever). We had never really thought about what could happen if it was overfilled, but we realised that.

Time to fix the boiler room in the houseboat

Now it's time to fix the boiler room, also called "the old engine room" or our "crawl-in closet". It contains everything that controls electricity, heating and water in the houseboat. You can also use this room for storage. The "funny thing" is that every time someone has decided to install something new, they have left the old one in place. The old sink was so narrow that it was difficult to reach to wash. We have now installed new bathroom furniture with a new sink and a new mixer tap. We also bought a new toilet seat.

Chaos in the houseboat

Peter is working extra this weekend, from 7am to 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday. But that doesn't stop him from working on the boat when he gets home! "We are rebuilding the large room on the lower deck, where we have a bedroom, exercise room and wardrobe. The idea is to make it both attractive (with a bit of a ship's feel) and more functional.

Move-out cleaning in the apartment

Yesterday we met the couple who are buying our apartment in the flat to ask if they wanted things that we were prepared to leave behind. We have already promised them the antique dining table, but now we wanted to ask for some smaller things: shoe racks, lamps, mirrors, curtains, a guest bed ... They are a young couple living in a small studio apartment now, so they were very happy both for the move and all the stuff we left.

Wardrobe construction in progress

What do we do on a sunny Saturday? Well, we are building a wardrobe. As you may remember, we have a "crawl-in closet" in the houseboat, that is, a large wardrobe where you can't stand straight. It's a bit hard on the back to stand crooked all the time when choosing clothes and getting dressed.

When we built the apartment

Thank you for all the nice comments about our apartment! We are very happy about that! Now that we have talked about all the work we put in, I came to think about what it looked like from the beginning, and during the construction.
