Giardini Naxos, located right next to Taormina, is a popular seaside resort in Sicily. In fact, several readers have written that they have been here, and it seems that Fritidsresor organises charters here.

Costa del Rei - beach on the east coast of Sardinia

We have now reached the Costa del Rei on the south-east coast of Sardinia. We had to "escape" from the hot Cagliari, where we were parked in the middle of the sun without the possibility of shade or swimming. We have taken in the camping Le Dune, where we got a relatively shady place.

Heat and computer problems in Sardinia

For three days we have been planning to roll on from Porto Pino in southern Sardinia, and for as many days we have given up the idea and simply stopped. Why? It's too hot to move!!! We have 36 plus degrees today and are parked in a relentlessly sunny spot where the air is completely still.

Salesmen on beaches - hot days in Sardinia

On every beach here in Sardinia (and in many other places, of course) you will find them: the vendors. They sell just about anything you can imagine selling: hats, sunglasses, sarongs, summer dresses, beach towels, beach toys, jewellery, speakers, iPhone cases...

Porto Pino and a campsite in southern Sardinia

Now we have made it to Porto Pino, and a campsite in southern Sardinia outside St Anna Arresi. After a lot of free camping, we had a great need for services (garbage collection, possibility to fill and empty tanks and so on) but during high season or almost high season you have to be careful not to end up at campsites with completely hysterical prices. Camping Sardegna in Porto Pino had no website - which I thought seemed promising from a price point of view.

We continue to fricamp in Sardinia

It is wonderful to fricamp in Sardinia! It's now five days since we filled and emptied the tanks in the car and charged electricity from a pole. The water in the tank is probably almost gone, the electricity in the car is ticking down and the car is full of things that need to be emptied: rubbish, waste water, toilet. Nevertheless, we decide to hitchhike one more night!

The advantage of a motorhome is that you are not restricted to charter destinations or places where there are hotels. Today, we started the journey south from Buggerru, travelling on breathtakingly beautiful roads through the mountains, with many impressive views of the sea.

From Stintino to Alghero, Sardinia

Now we have arrived in the nice town of Alghero. But the day started by driving to the far end of the Stintino peninsula in north-west Sardinia. There should be many beautiful beaches ... and there probably are. But here in July, it is BOTH difficult to find space on the beach AND difficult to find space to park the motorhome. After being driven away from a car park (don't know why - we were standing inside the parking space?) we gave up and rolled further south.

Cala Gonone - Sardinian paradise

Yesterday, as we drove south in Sardinia, we felt a bit cheated. Firstly, we did not get out to the beaches at Emerald Coast with our motorhome and secondly, it felt like we left the charming small roads and deserted nature of Corsica behind us. Here in Sardinia, the roads are bigger, the people are more numerous, the cars drive faster... Well, we finally arrived at Cala Gonone, which is really nice!

Camping with a difference - in Sardinia

After three days in 'internet shadow' on the wonderful island of La Maddalena off Sardinia (we blogged from the tourist office), we wanted a campsite with good WiFi. We drove to Centro Vacanze Isuledda in northern Sardinia, where we (so far) have an ACSI discount and pay 18 euros/day.
